New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani spent part of the evening of Oct. 7 with Palestinian families in the city. On the third anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023 attack, the mayor went to Hinds Hall by Ayat, a Palestinian restaurant in Manhattan featured in the Michelin Guide, to meet Palestinian New Yorkers.
The meeting appeared on the mayor’s official public schedule as a 9 p.m. gathering with "Palestinian New Yorkers." It took place after Mamdani attended a vigil in Union Square in memory of those killed in the attack.

A statement on Gaza the same day
Earlier on Oct. 7, Mamdani issued a written statement saying more than 74,000 Palestinians, including more than 21,000 children, had been killed in Gaza. He described Israel’s campaign as a genocide and argued that U.S. tax dollars were funding war crimes, drawing criticism from Israel’s U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon.
