The Justice Department is reviewing allegations that Corey Lewandowski, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, used his senior role at the Department of Homeland Security to benefit himself financially, according to multiple U.S. media reports on Thursday.
The review follows a referral from the DHS inspector general's office, which had been examining Lewandowski's tenure at the department. The inquiry began with the contracting for a $220 million advertising campaign, and reports said investigators were also looking at alleged arrangements involving visa matters and payments from government contractors. ABC News described the investigation as being in its early stages.

The Justice Department declined to comment. Lewandowski's attorney said his client had not been contacted by the department about any investigation and denied any wrongdoing. Asked about the reports, Trump said: "I heard something about it, but I don't know exactly what it is."
