The Moscow Oil Refinery is an important fuel-producing facility serving the Russian capital and surrounding region.
According to data reported by Reuters, the refinery processed around 11.6 million metric tons of crude oil in 2024. It produced approximately 2.9 million tons of gasoline and 3.2 million tons of diesel that year.

The strike on the refinery came as Moscow and the surrounding region faced a major wave of drone attacks.
Russian authorities said more than 1,600 drones had been intercepted since Saturday, including around 450 that were heading toward Moscow.

Two people were killed in the Moscow region, while residential buildings and vehicles were also reported damaged.
