Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the large-scale strikes targeting Moscow and the surrounding region on September 20, saying Ukrainian long-range weapons had hit key facilities linked to Russia’s oil and logistics infrastructure.
According to Zelensky, the strikes targeted an important facility in Russia’s oil industry as well as logistics infrastructure in the Moscow region.
“Billion-dollar facilities fueling the war machine”
Zelensky described the targeted infrastructure as billion-dollar facilities that, according to him, help sustain Russia’s war machine.
The Ukrainian president also said several domestically produced long-range systems were used in Ukraine’s operations.
Moscow Oil Refinery targeted
Ukraine’s General Staff said the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district was among the targets of the strikes.
Russian authorities confirmed that drones reached the refinery site and caused damage. A fire and thick smoke were reported in the area following the attack.
Large-scale drone attack on Moscow region
The refinery strike came as Moscow, the surrounding region and other parts of Russia faced a large wave of Ukrainian drone attacks.

Russian authorities reported intercepting a large number of Ukrainian drones, while casualties and damage to residential buildings were also reported in the Moscow region.
Zelensky calls on Russia to end the war
In his statement, Zelensky also called on Russia to end the war and pursue peace.
The Ukrainian president said Kyiv would continue using its long-range capabilities against facilities that Ukraine considers linked to Russia’s military potential.
