Landmarks around the world displayed the Turkish flag as Türkiye celebrated the 103rd anniversary of the founding of its Republic on Oct. 29, from a giant digital screen at the entrance of New York's Lincoln Tunnel to the world's tallest building in Dubai.
On the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel, which links New York and New Jersey, a digital billboard above the spiral approach road carried the message "Happy Republic Day Türkiye," Anadolu Agency reported, sharing drone footage of the screen over the evening traffic.

The billboard also showed a portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, alongside the Turkish flag.
Burj Khalifa turns red and white
In Dubai, the 828-meter Burj Khalifa was lit in the colors of the Turkish flag at 7:20 p.m. local time, as announced by Türkiye's Consulate General in Dubai. Turkish citizens and visitors gathered at the foot of the tower and sang the Turkish national anthem, the İstiklal Marşı.
The skyscraper's LED facade regularly displays national flags to mark countries' national days.
Galata Tower and eight Doha landmarks join in
In Istanbul, the medieval Galata Tower glowed red, with a crescent and star, the words "29 Ekim Cumhuriyet Bayramı" and an archival image from the War of Independence projected onto its stone facade.

In Qatar's capital, the Turkish Embassy arranged for eight landmarks to be lit in the Turkish flag's colors: the Al Jaber Towers, the Torch Tower, the Sheraton hotel, the e18hteen Towers, the Al Fardan Tower, the Al Jassar Dome, the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar. In Tbilisi, Georgia, the Tbilisi TV Tower was also illuminated in red and white.

A view from space
Türkiye's Defense Ministry marked the day with images from the GÖKTÜRK-1 Earth observation satellite showing a giant portrait and signature of Atatürk laid out on the slopes of Keşiş Mountain, along with eight Turkish flags on mountainsides from Mut in Mersin province to Kahramanmaraş.

Another image showed a crescent and star on a hillside at Harput, the historic citadel town in Elazığ province. Republic Day commemorates the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye on Oct. 29, 1923, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

In Ankara, celebrations included a procession from the Grand National Assembly to the building of the first parliament, while large crowds visited Anıtkabir, Atatürk's mausoleum, throughout the day.
