Sanctions against foreign social media platforms continue in Russia. The Taganskiy District Court in the capital Moscow has ruled on cases filed against Twitch, Telegram and Pinterest.
The court ruled that the platforms failed to fulfill their legal obligations in the country by not removing banned content. Accordingly, Twitch, Telegram and Pinterest were each fined 3.5 million rubles in administrative penalties. The total fines for the three platforms reached 10.5 million rubles.
Russia has previously imposed various fines on foreign social media companies for failing to remove banned content and violating legal obligations. While Telegram has been completely blocked in the country for violating laws, Twitch has faced occasional access restrictions.
