President Donald Trump on Thursday called on Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, to resign from Congress immediately, claiming that she was sworn in under a false name.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that Omar's real name is "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi," sharing a surname with her former husband Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, and said she had openly admitted to fraud. He also urged House Speaker Mike Johnson to declare her seat vacant. There is no record of Omar making any such admission, and no court has ruled that she used a false identity or committed fraud.

Trump's remarks followed an Oct. 21 Justice Department court filing, connected to a federal search of Omar's Washington home, that referred to her as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, also known as Ilhan Abdullahi Omar." The filing did not explain why the alternative name was used and did not conclude that she had committed fraud.
Federal agents searched Omar's Washington home on Oct. 12 as part of an investigation into possible false statements in immigration and citizenship records, including claims about her age when she became a citizen. Omar's spokesperson said the accusation was completely false and that the congresswoman's real name is Ilhan Omar.
Omar, who came to the United States in 1995 at the age of 12 and became a citizen in 2000, denies any wrongdoing. The first Somali American elected to the House has accused the administration of trying to intimidate her ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
