A map shared by US President Donald Trump on social media showed Canada, Mexico and Greenland, along with Cuba and some nearby areas, as US territory.
In the image, the regions outside the United States’ current borders were marked with the phrase “US territories.”

Sheinbaum responds to the map
In a statement posted on her X account after the map was shared, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico is a free, independent and sovereign country. Sheinbaum said her country is not and will not be under the protection of any foreign state.
Before Trump shared this map, another image showing the US state of New Mexico was also posted. In that image, the word “Mexico” in the state’s name was crossed out and replaced with “America.”
