US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Punchbowl News published Friday that he does not want China to overtake the United States in artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency.
“We don’t want China taking control of crypto. I don’t want China to win in artificial intelligence,” Trump said.
The race for AI supremacy
Arguing that Washington is ahead of Beijing in artificial intelligence, Trump said the winner of the race would gain a significant advantage. Saying that artificial intelligence is “much bigger” than the internet, Trump said the technology would surpass everything people had imagined so far.
Tax cuts and data centers
Trump said that if he were a governor, he would seek to cut taxes to attract data centers to his region. Describing data centers as an important source of revenue, Trump said, “We cannot let China beat us on this.”
Trump also said that people were increasingly making payments with Bitcoin and that the world could be moving toward a period when the importance of cash was no longer known.
