U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the new plane, gifted by Qatar and used as Air Force One, will be sent to an upgrade facility to be fully equipped. Trump said on July 19 that the Boeing 747 would be sent there within a month.
President Trump, who started using the aircraft in early July, abandoned it on a July 8 flight from Turkey to England and traveled on the older Air Force One, calling the move 'for nostalgia.' On his return to the U.S., he boarded the new plane again.
Speaking to reporters upon returning from the FIFA World Cup final, Trump said the plane 'has great capacity' but would be upgraded to the maximum level in about a month. It was reported that the Air Force had not yet commented on the matter.
The aircraft, refurbished by defense contractor L3Harris Technologies and featuring the red, white, navy blue, and gold colors chosen by Trump, had drawn criticism due to the rapid refurbishment process. Some experts expressed concern that the plane might not be as secure as the old Air Force One.

It is reported that Boeing can only deliver the next-generation Air Force One aircraft, ordered in 2018 under a fixed-price contract worth $3.9 billion, by mid-2028. New York Times journalists were subpoenaed earlier this month over their reporting on the plane's security features. The NYT has filed a lawsuit to block the grand jury subpoenas in a Manhattan federal court.
