The triumphal arch planned next to the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington will have broader military uses, according to President Trump. Trump said he had agreed to expand the scope of the project.
Citing strong demand from the U.S. military and national security objectives, Trump said the structure near Arlington National Cemetery would be built as a high-level military complex. Construction is scheduled to begin in November.

Areas for drones and ammunition
Trump said the facility would house and deploy numerous unmanned aerial vehicles, snipers and ammunition at various locations. He said this arrangement would allow these assets to be used quickly.
Arguing that the project would be a facility unlike any other in the world, Trump said Washington was the only city among 59 major cities and capitals without a triumphal arch. He said the capital would now have such a structure and that the facility would be the largest of its kind.

Civilian organizations oppose the project
Trump’s statement came as the triumphal arch project faced objections from veterans’ associations and civil society organizations that protect historical monuments. Trump also said the project had been planned since the period of the American Civil War.
