Turkish-American political streamer Hasan Piker filed a defamation lawsuit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against CNN political commentator Scott Jennings, seeking $72.5 million in damages: at least $27.5 million in compensatory damages and $45 million in punitive damages.
The suit brings claims of defamation, defamation by implication and false light. It alleges that Jennings aired an altered clip and an invented quote on his Aug. 11 podcast to suggest that Piker had called for the lynching of Black Americans.

According to the complaint, the roughly 42-second clip combined excerpts from three older Twitch broadcasts, rearranging remarks and removing their context. Piker says he had been sarcastically mocking a conservative commentator.
Piker says he sent Jennings a formal retraction demand in August, which was ignored, and that the content remains publicly available. Jennings did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Piker, one of the most-watched political streamers on Twitch, is the nephew of The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur.
