New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined the New York City chapter of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) at its 20th annual gala in Astoria, Queens, celebrating the organization's decades of labor organizing.
"For more than 50 years, the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement has championed a proud tradition of labor organizing, amplified Latino voices within the AFL-CIO, and united workers in the fight for dignity, collective power and solidarity," the mayor said.
"It was an honor to join LCLAA in Astoria to celebrate this legacy and reaffirm our shared commitment to a city where every worker, every immigrant community and every New Yorker is respected, protected and empowered," he added.

A voice for Latino workers
Founded in 1972, LCLAA is a constituency group of the AFL-CIO that represents Latino union members across the United States and Puerto Rico. Its New York City chapter brings together labor leaders, elected officials and community organizations at its annual gala, where it honors union members and community leaders.

Hispanic and Latino residents make up roughly 28% of New York City's population, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
