An outage at the US Federal Election Commission affected campaign finance notifications but did not affect voting. Dara Lindenbaum, the commission’s Democratic member, said voter files and voter registration records are maintained by the states, while the agency manages only federal campaign finance filings.
The electronic filing and alert systems went offline less than a week before the November 3 general election. As a result, political committees were unable to submit campaign finance reports to the commission electronically.
The Federal Election Commission informed at least one political committee by email that its electronic filing system was unavailable and that electronic reports could not be submitted.

The commission’s status-tracking system showed that the outages began being examined on Monday evening. The FEC Notify system, which sends subscribers alerts when new campaign finance notifications are published, also went offline during the same period.
Commission spokesperson Myles Martin said the electronic filing system was offline and that the information technology team was working to restore the service. A cyberattack incident reportedly linked to the system’s outage also became the subject of an investigation.
