Von der Leyen calls for immediate halt to dangerous migration crossings at Ceuta
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen found the images from Ceuta unacceptable and stated that entry to the EU without following rules would not be allowed. She said that additional support, including Frontex, would be provided to Spain and that cooperation with Morocco would yield results.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made stern remarks regarding the migration movements at Spain's Ceuta border.
Von der Leyen stressed that the images coming from Ceuta were unacceptable. "We cannot allow anyone to enter the European Union without following our rules," said the Commission President, adding: "Dangerous crossings must be stopped immediately, human smuggling networks must be dismantled, and returns in line with our rules must be ensured swiftly."
Announcing that the European Union would provide additional operational support, including Frontex, to Spain, von der Leyen said she believed that close cooperation with Morocco would bring concrete results.
