The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) will hold an emergency online meeting with African health ministers to assess the spread of Ebola after Nigeria, the continent's most populous country, confirmed its first case.
Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya said the Oct. 28 meeting aims to strengthen a joint response, adding that Ebola has now affected three regions of Africa and requires urgent action and political leadership at the highest level.

Nigeria's government said the case was linked to a passenger who arrived from Uganda earlier this month, and 44 people who may have had contact with the virus have been placed under monitoring. Uganda, which declared the end of its outbreak in July after 20 cases, rejected claims that the Nigerian case originated there. Kenya has also reported nine cases linked to travelers who passed through Uganda.
The World Health Organization urged all countries in the region to stay on high alert amid the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
