In the case concerning the armed attack on a Hanukkah celebration held at Bondi Beach in December 2025, Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court set 24 February 2027 as the date for Naveed Akram's preliminary hearing.
Akram, 25, faces 78 charges, including murder, attempted murder and committing a terrorist act. The allegation that he carried out the attack will be examined during the legal proceedings.
Prosecutors request an additional 17 weeks
Prosecutor Danielle New requested the adjournment, saying that meetings were needed with the families of those killed in the attack and the large number of victims. Prosecutors plan to finalize the charges after those meetings are completed.
Akram was not brought to court from the maximum-security prison on Wednesday. His lawyer did not apply for bail, and Akram is expected to attend the next hearing by video link.
Attack toll: 15 dead and 42 injured
Fifteen people were killed and 42 were injured in the armed attack. Australian police classified the incident at Bondi Beach as a terrorist attack.

Akram's father, Sajid Akram, was also armed and opened fire on the beach. Sajid Akram was shot and killed by police before his son was apprehended.
Separate charge over compensation application
Police also charged a 46-year-old Indian national who allegedly sought financial compensation by claiming that he had been injured in the Bondi Beach attack.
New South Wales Police said the suspect had falsely claimed to have been injured in the attack and had then submitted fraudulent applications to obtain compensation. The suspect, whose Australian visa had expired, was held by border authorities after being detained and transferred to an immigration detention centre.
