OpenAI announced that its artificial intelligence models had produced three scientific results in mathematics, computer science and physics. The company is planning a process that will enable the findings to be examined using different methods and verified by independent researchers.
Harmonic analysis and computer science
OpenAI said its models proved the local smoothing conjecture in harmonic analysis in all dimensions. This extended the scope of the conjecture to every dimension in harmonic analysis.
In computer science, OpenAI said its models had disproved the Exponential Time Hypothesis, which had long been considered true.
Findings on quantum field theories
The study produced results aimed at proving the mathematical existence of certain quantum field theories, including quantum chromodynamics.

Results to be opened to independent review
The company announced that three different methods would be used for the scientific evaluation of the research results. These methods will allow researchers to examine the outputs generated by artificial intelligence and independently verify the findings.

OpenAI also said it would make the raw data related to the results available for independent review and fund a conference to assess the findings' implications for computer science. The results produced by the artificial intelligence models were verified using a method known as Lean.
