Donald Trump Jr. spent two days with Umar Kremlev at a remote hunting camp in western Mongolia, accompanied by U.S. Secret Service agents. During the trip, Trump Jr. hunted wild animals.
Flight records and accounts from local guides in the region indicate that Kremlin-linked Russian businessman Kremlev flew by private jet to Ulaanbaatar after a boxing press conference in Kazakhstan. Kremlev then traveled directly from Mongolia’s capital to Trump Jr.’s camp.
Trump Jr. and Kremlev took care not to be photographed together during the trip. Part of the journey was financed through a charity auction offering access to the president’s son, with winners paying as much as $140,000.
Payment for Trump Jr.’s wedding
Kremlev had also covered part of the expenses for Trump Jr.’s wedding, held on a private island in the Caribbean in May. Following the reports, U.S. President Donald Trump said his son had repaid Kremlev.

Kremlev has been accused of having ties to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin through Alexei Rubezhny, who heads Putin’s security service, and is on Ukraine’s sanctions list. Kremlev also serves as president of the International Boxing Association.
Former officials assess security risks
Former U.S. counterintelligence officials said personal contacts between people close to American presidents and Kremlin-linked individuals could pose serious security risks.
Trump Jr.’s spokesperson said his relationship with Kremlev was based primarily on hunting, fishing and a love of nature. The spokesperson said Trump Jr. had a personal friendship with Kremlev, that there was no business relationship between them and that their going hunting together should not be considered surprising.
Kremlev did not respond to requests for comment on the matter.
