A federal magistrate judge in Florida has ordered President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC, requiring him to answer questions under oath from the broadcaster's lawyers by Dec. 11.
Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett issued the order on Thursday after the BBC asked the court to set a firm date. Trump had canceled a deposition scheduled for Oct. 16, citing his presidential duties, while the BBC's lawyers pointed out that he was campaigning in Georgia that day. The deadline could move only if the discovery period is extended beyond Dec. 18.

Failure to comply could expose Trump to sanctions, including the possible dismissal of the case. District Judge Roy K. Altman has set a provisional start date of Feb. 15, 2027, for a two-week trial.
Trump sued the BBC over the editing of his Jan. 6, 2021, speech in a Panorama documentary.
