Rapper Nicki Minaj flew with President Donald Trump aboard Air Force One on Sunday to a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, where Trump was set to stump for Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers and other GOP candidates ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
Minaj posted a video from inside the presidential plane, greeting staff members on board.
'A president that understands economics'
In an interview on the plane released by the White House, Minaj said the economy was strong "because we have a president that understands economics." "I've said before that the president is naturally a businessman," she said. "If he could do that with himself and his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country."
She described Trump as "very tough internationally," saying, "He tells them what we need, not what they need." Asked whether anyone works harder than the president, she said, "Absolutely not," adding that he "outworks people that are half his age."
Asked about polls showing Republicans trailing, Minaj said, "Let's ask Hillary Clinton how fake the fake polls are," arguing that such polls are meant to deter conservative voters from going to the polls. The White House rapid response account joked that it "may have found the new White House Press Secretary."
Michigan Senate race
The rally at Port Huron's McMorran Place Arena came a day after former President Barack Obama campaigned in Detroit for Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who faces Rogers in the race for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Gary Peters.
Minaj has openly backed Trump this year, calling herself his "number one fan" at a rally in January.
