Secretary of State Marco Rubio met his Australian, Indian and Japanese counterparts in Atlanta on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers' meeting and said the Quad is making concrete progress on cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
In a statement, Rubio said he was pleased to discuss the group's progress in turning shared priorities into tangible benefits for the region. He said the four countries continue working to build reliable and open supply chains, support next-generation technologies, expand maritime cooperation and secure critical minerals.

What is the Quad?
According to the State Department, the Quad is a diplomatic partnership among the United States, Australia, India and Japan that aims to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific. Its origins trace back to the coordination the four countries set up after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.
