U.S. President Donald Trump described CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s visit to Moscow this week as “semi-routine.” Trump rejected claims that the visit was linked to rumors that Russia would test the resolve of NATO allies or was planning an attack on the United Kingdom.
When political commentator Glenn Beck asked whether Russia was preparing for a possible attack, Trump replied, “None of the above.” Describing Ratcliffe as “a great person,” Trump said the CIA director did not travel to Moscow for those reasons.
Regarding the possible outcome of the visit, Trump said, “Something could come of it. We are working very hard to end the war.” The statement noted that the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022.
The U.S. president said Moscow and Kyiv appeared ready to reach an agreement and that both sides wanted the conflict to end at this stage.
The Kremlin confirmed that Ratcliffe took part in contacts between security institutions in Moscow on Tuesday. The visit was the first by a CIA director to Moscow since 2021.
