US Central Command said its attacks on targets in Iran had been completed, while Iran retaliated against US assets in the region with missiles and drones. Explosions were heard on Qeshm Island and in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Asaluyeh, Chabahar and Konarak in southern Iran.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had shot down a US MQ-9 drone. Iran's General Staff warned that the US military would suffer heavier losses if it continued its attacks.
Eleven people killed in southern Iran
At least 11 people were killed and 76 wounded in attacks in southern Iran. Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan Province, said a house where a wedding ceremony was being held had been hit in the city of Kuhestak in Sirik County.
Nafisi said that, according to initial assessments, at least four people had been killed and 68 wounded in the attack in Kuhestak. Seven people were also killed and eight wounded in the Khuzestan region. Jiroft Airport in Kerman Province was targeted.
US Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said he was aware of reports concerning the house in Kuhestak and asserted that the US military did not target civilians.
Iran announces attacks on US bases in four countries
The Iranian military announced that it had retaliated with missiles and drones against US bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also said that a missile and drone attack had been carried out against Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
The Revolutionary Guard claimed that several US drones had been destroyed in the attack. The statement said the US commander's headquarters and accommodation area, a drone hangar and the ramps where drones were deployed were targeted.
The Jordanian military said it had intercepted 10 of the 13 ballistic missiles that entered the country's airspace, while three missiles fell in unpopulated areas. Some airlines canceled flights to Jordan.
Kuwaiti authorities warned the public about attacks launched from Iran with drones and missiles and said air defense systems had been activated. Bahrain also said that drones sent from Iran had been intercepted by air defense systems.
The Israeli military said sirens sounded in some areas of northern Israel because of drones launched from Lebanon and that interceptor missiles had been fired.
Trump denies claims of negotiations with Iran
US President Donald Trump rejected claims that the Washington administration was trying to bring Iran to the negotiating table. Trump said it did not matter to the United States whether Iran signed an agreement that Tehran considered worthless.
Trump argued that the United States had a much stronger strategic position and said the Strait of Hormuz was almost completely under control. He claimed that Iran's economy was in a process of collapse and used language calling on the Iranian people to fight.
US officials claim tankers were attacked
US officials speaking on condition of anonymity claimed that the US military had attacked two Iranian tankers. The officials argued that the operations were carried out under a new policy aimed at deterring Iran from targeting tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The officials claimed that tankers belonging to the Iranian government had anchored off the Iranian coast near the northern boundary of the US naval blockade. According to the officials, US drones struck the tankers' engine rooms with missiles.
The same officials said that the US targets included air defense facilities, radar systems, naval assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.
The officials also claimed that half of Iran's attacks involving approximately 25 ballistic missiles reached Jordanian airspace, that 10 missiles were intercepted and that three fell without causing casualties or property damage. They asserted that Iran sent approximately two dozen drones against US bases in Bahrain and two drones against US bases in Erbil, Iraq, and that the drones were intercepted.
