Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel, one of President Donald Trump's earliest backers in the tech world, said the United States should not have gone to war with Iran, Politico reported, citing audio of remarks he made at a private lecture on Oct. 12.
"We should not have done it," Thiel said, adding that many mistakes had been made. He also suggested the U.S. may lack hard power and could lose the competition for soft power.

Thiel nevertheless stressed his continued support for Trump while voicing opposition to neoconservative foreign policy and U.S. military intervention in the Middle East. The remarks were part of a lecture series in Nashville.
Thiel was a major financial backer of super PACs supporting JD Vance's 2022 Senate campaign. Neither Thiel's representatives nor the White House responded to Politico's requests for comment.
