Neil Bush, the brother of former President George W. Bush and son of former President George H.W. Bush, said on Tuesday that he crossed party lines and voted for Democrat James Talarico in the Texas Senate race, Mediaite reported.
“I voted early today, and I voted for James Talarico for the United States Senate,” Bush wrote in a lengthy public message, arguing that character “matters more than party affiliation.”
Bush said he had been “deeply troubled” by the conduct of Republican nominee Ken Paxton as Texas attorney general, particularly his challenge to the results of the 2020 presidential election in other states. Paxton was impeached by the Republican-controlled Texas House in 2023 and later acquitted by the state Senate.

He also criticized President Donald Trump, saying that Trump and those who enabled him “have done enormous damage to the Republican Party.” Bush, who said he had never met Talarico, praised the Democrat as a candidate who “speaks with respect, seeks common ground, and seems genuinely interested in bringing people together.”
Barbara Bush, George W. Bush’s daughter, donated $2,500 in September to Lone Star Rising PAC, the main outside group backing Talarico, according to federal campaign finance records.
A University of Texas poll released last week showed Talarico leading Paxton 50% to 47% in the unusually competitive race.
