More than 100 Orthodox Jewish families from New York are planning to join about 60 others who have already moved to Lakefront Estates, a new community in Glades County, Florida, the New York Post reported. The $300 million, 550-acre development officially opened in October and includes a kosher supermarket, a synagogue and a yeshiva.
CEO Yidel Perlstein said Orthodox Jewish buyers made up the first wave of sales because so many were seeking to leave New York, but that the homes are open to anyone. Four-bedroom homes start at $460,000, and seven-bedroom homes sell for $585,000.

Families interviewed by the Post said rising antisemitism, which they said worsened after Mayor Zohran Mamdani took office, pushed them to leave. Others cited New York's high housing costs and Florida's vouchers for private school tuition. The Post said hate crimes in New York City are up nearly 16% from last year, with about half targeting Jews.
New York Assemblymember Aron Wieder, a Democrat from Rockland County, said about 20 families from his district have moved to the community. "For a Jew to have to look over their shoulder when they're walking down the street, it's very disturbing," he said.
The Post also reported that far-right online influencers have targeted the new community with antisemitic rhetoric.
