The Trump administration has directly authorized about $43 billion in subsidies for farmers beyond what Congress has passed, the Washington Examiner reported Sunday.
The latest program is the Agriculture Department's $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief Program, which Trump announced at a campaign rally. It is aimed at farmers dealing with record-high diesel prices. AAA put the national average for diesel at about $6.35 a gallon on Oct. 25.

In March, the administration distributed $12 billion through the USDA's Farmer Bridge Assistance Program. "I just gave you $12 billion," Trump told farmers at the time, according to Fortune, which cited Cato Institute analysis suggesting that most subsidies go to the largest 10% of farms.
Critics argue the administration would not have needed to spend the money if not for its tariffs and the war with Iran.
