Police were called to a youth soccer game in Winter Park, Florida, on Saturday after a league organizer reported a disturbance involving the parents of a 3-year-old player named Nevada.
The boy's family says he was singled out for being too good. His parents say officials repeatedly took him out of the 30-minute game after he scored, so he played only about 12 minutes, yet he still scored 10 goals. "They called the police on a 3-year-old because he's too good," his father said in a video that drew millions of views.
Thomas Hayes, a director of the local i9 Sports program, told officers in body camera footage that the boy was very skilled but was pushing other players. "He's really advanced compared to the other ones. He's scoring a lot of goals, but he's pushing the kids and scoring," Hayes said. He said the parents had caused a scene and offered the family a refund.
Police said the incident was a civil matter, not a criminal one. "No one was arrested, trespassed, or forced to leave the park," the department said, adding that the family was cooperative. i9 Sports said it takes the concerns "very seriously" and is working to understand the circumstances.
