The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for Los Angeles and Orange County beaches as king tides peak from Oct. 26 to 28. Forecasters expect morning high tides of 7.5 to 8 feet, close to the area's all-time record of 7.93 feet set in San Pedro on Jan. 10, 2005.
The tides could cause minor flooding along harbor walkways, oceanfront bike paths and coastal parking lots, along with a moderate risk of rip currents. Newport Beach has declared a local emergency and activated its emergency operations center, and crews in Long Beach are working to protect the shoreline.

Recent high surf has already damaged property in Long Beach, Malibu and Newport Beach. Forecasters say a significant storm could reach the region by the weekend, with a 90% chance of rain from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2.
