US Central Command announced that American forces had launched strikes against IRGC targets in Iran. The command said the operation began on Tuesday.
The strikes began at 12:00 p.m. US Eastern Time. According to the announcement, the operation was conducted after the IRGC's latest attempted attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and US troops stationed in the region.
Tensions remain high between Tehran and Washington
Tensions between Tehran and Washington have remained high since the war began with attacks on Iran in late February.
A framework agreement was signed in June with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators. After disagreements between the parties continued, the US launched a two-week bombing campaign in July.
The US also reinstated its naval blockade after disputes over navigation in the strait.
